Police mentioned they were alerted by a individual who discovered a vehicle in Hanau marked with red-colored fluid

Around fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.

Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.

The substance had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they stated.

Police then discovered numerous other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement say preliminary tests show the substance was most likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are presently not informed of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.

Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for information.

A senior political figure said the attack left him without words and had to be resolved rapidly.

"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the death of nine victims by a shooter targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
