Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
