The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Share Anger Over Sizing Modifications
Vinted users have been reacting angrily following a change that caused items being listed as the wrong size.
This online marketplace has altered its sizing categories for women's and children's clothes failing to inform all shoppers about the modification.
Social Media Backlash
Countless users and merchants are posting online claiming that product pages now present a different size category than originally posted due to the recalibration.
Vinted explained the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.
The platform has recommended to review their products and adjust the sizing manually if necessary, causing user dissatisfaction.
Measurement Approach Changes
Earlier, the measurements included numerical and alphabetical indicators, like S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter with a size spectrum like S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the sizing has been recategorised - for example a size L used to be a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
Shopper Stories
Frankie Bridger, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Another user, from Glasgow, explained products she uploaded on Vinted with size 14 labels were showing in the marketplace as larger sizing 20-22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they may become frustrated," she said.
Manual Updates
Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"This situation is especially annoying, since I have chronic health issues and Vinted sales have been crucial for me since losing part of my income," she said.
Platform Context
The platform boasts over 100 million users, with 18 million British users.
It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time that an unexpected update to the app has proved unpopular: last year, the platform withdrew an update to its shipping options due to shopper criticism.
